Smart trial for Seward

Rover 75As well as undertaking smart repairs – Smartair is also your answer to priming vehicles in the open workshop – safely and legally.

This is the message from Junair the industry’s leading spraybooth manufacturer. Junair urges bodyshops to free up valuable spraybooth time and save energy , by using their Smartair at-source extraction system to tackle priming.

Accident repair specialist, Seward, is trialling Junair Group’s Smartair at its nine workshops across the south coast , in order to experience first hand how installing the at-source extraction system could benefit the sites’ operational capabilities.

The Smartair system is unique as it enables bodyshops to complete paint finishing jobs outside of the spraybooth due to its unique extraction capability which takes away all overspray fumes and particulates during painting. Fully compliant with environmental and health and safety legislation, jobs which would usually have to be completed inside the spraybooth are safe and legal to undertake in the open workshop, making spraybooths available for larger paint refinishing jobs.

PrimingJay Commander, Seward Group Process Manager was keen to discover the benefits in energy saving, running costs and health and safety that Smartair could provide for the Seward Group’s sites, and with three sites already having already trialled the system, he commented: “So far, the results from the Smartair systems have been excellent. The jobs can be undertaken safely outside the spraybooths, and our workshop operators have found them to be versatile and easy to use. In my capacity as Process Manager, health and safety is a major concern for me, and as well as being completed safely, I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the quality produced by the Smartair.”

“Working in open workshops for priming also means that there is less need for vehicles to be moved as the Smartair system is taken directly to the job by the operative. It allows our spraybooths to be used for top coating giving us the capability to move vehicles through the workshop much more efficiently and profitably.”

With its 2-stage filtration system, Smartair complies with the emissions regulations set out in the Environmental Protection Act and is well below the particulate emission levels of 10mg/m³. Smartair satisfies relevant health & safety directives and in independent tests, the product provided a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) 74% below the permitted maximum.

Jay continues: “We even pushed the Smartair sytem to see if it could cope with two door panels at the same time and were again impressed with its capability.”

Kevin Dillon, Technical Process Manager at Junair commented: “The Smartair system is an exemplary piece of equipment that can positively change the dynamics of your bodyshop. The system takes away the need for roll priming as it enables you to spray legally in an open shop and above all, safely, outside of the spraybooth. Running costs, by using the Smartair instead of spraybooths for priming, are reduced by approximately 97% which is a substantial saving.”

JCA Coatings introduced the Smartair System to Sewards and Gavin Hopper, Sales/Technical Manager from JCA Coatings agrees with Kevin as to its benefits. “We were so impressed with the Smartair at JCA Coatings that we bought one to show our customers how effective it could be, and on the strength of this, the Seward Group was keen to trial the system at its sites. It really does save booth time, masking time and overall, can increase productivity in a busy bodyshop.”
