Sweet Results: An Ice Cream Van Spray Booth for Whitby Morrison
We are pleased to share Junair have recently completed the installation of a new 3 Series Spray Booth Oven and Paint Mixing Room for Whitby Morrison. Over six decades of experience have rendered Whitby Morrison as the undisputed world’s leading manufacturer of ice cream vehicles.

Their existing spray booth was ready to be replaced with a new cutting edge version, worthy of the vehicles they are producing. A large Junair 3 Series downdraft booth was selected, using Whitby’s combined engineering experience we agreed a high specification booth to ensure the best possible paint finish whilst keeping an eye on the running costs. The drive-through booth measures 10m x 5m and is 4m tall with a fully gridded floor suitable for 5 tonne vehicles.
Lighting was a key focus so the decision was made to install Halo 360° lighting at high level, as well as mid-level and low-level lights. Combined this is achieving 3000+ lux levels within the cabin.
When painting a complete ice cream van the time spent spraying is much longer than a traditional repair and often two painters are spraying at the same time. Therefore a 35,000m³/hr air handling plant was selected to ensure overspray is kept under control, drawing air and particulate down into the floor filters. The booth incorporates QADS to speed the curing process, iSystem to fine tune the cycle characteristics and a heat exchanger to recover heat from the exhaust flue and reduce the gas consumption of the site.
One thing you can be sure of, at any given moment somebody somewhere in the world is smiling because of an ice cream they have bought from a Whitby Morrison ice cream van.
