The installation included automatic powder coating equipment, infra-red curing oven and an overhead conveyor system. Powder Coating Equipment For Increase Energy Efficiency
Originally our customer was subcontracting their painting process; this created a number of issues as quality, turnaround time and costs were all compromised. Junair were approached to assess the feasibility of bringing the process in-house. A suitable location was identified and we were able draw upon our extensive experience and expertise to advise our customer on the most suitable paint finishing solution so the client could achieve the highest quality paint finish. We designed a painting line incorporating LEAN manufacturing principles which optimises productivity and minimise costs. The powder coating system which we installed was developed in conjunction with Gema UK. Junair project managed the whole installation, designing an electrical and mechanical programme which included all of the required works. We also coordinated the installation with the warehouse refurbishment to ensure the whole facility was completed to the customers satisfaction.
Saving on Labour Costs with Overhead Conveyor Systems
Within the design of the paint line we selected an overhead conveyor system to transport the parts through the process, from load and masking area through the powder coating booth, which features automatic paint application using reciprocators, a light barrier for product recognition and a full recovery system for the most efficient powder usage. The overhead conveyor system is powered with variable speed and features free spinning pendants on a 270mm pitch. The pendants are rotated automatically in the oven and booth to ensure a complete and even coating and curing. The rotation system can be retracted which allows larger pieces and parts to be powder coated and cured within the system without rotating.
Once the part has been passed through the powder coating booth, the overhead conveyor system then transports the part through an infra-red oven for curing. This is a gas catalytic infra-red oven system ensuring effective and efficient curing of the parts with the lowest operating costs, and the smallest footprint to maximise the factory space. The overhead conveyor system then finally transports the parts through a cooling zone ready for demasking and off-load.
The plant control features an operator touch screen with recipe control for ease of use, and the ability to fully automatically control the most efficient cure profiles for different products. We have been able to develop the system to allow a single operator to manage the whole painting line thus reducing labour and running costs.
